Use:
The Ring Type Joint gaskets were originally developed for high-pressure and high temperature applications in the petrochemical industry. Nowadays we can also come across them in valve and piping systems, high-pressure tanks and the like.
The RTJ metallic gaskets are divided into three basic groups:

Type R
  • Available in two cross-sections - oval and octagonal.
  • Both versions are mutually interchangeable for modern flat flanges with grooves.
  • Standard "R" metallic gasket rings are manufactured in dimensional series according to API 6A and ANSI B 16.20.
Typ BX
  • Type BX also utilizes an increase in internal pressure of the medium to increase sealing efficiency.
  • It is manufactured in accordance with API 6A and is constructed to withstand a pressure of up 20 000 psi (ca. 1380 bar).
  • Provided the type BX gasket is correctly installed, it allows direct fitting of the flange surfaces on the inner and outer diameters.
Type RX
  • The RX type utilizes an increase in the internal pressure of the medium to increase sealing efficiency.
  • It uses the same slot profile as type R - and are therefore interchangeable.
To avoid damage to the flange or the ring itself, care must be taken to select the right material.
  • The selection of the ring material depends mainly on the chemical compatibility with the medium and the hardness of the material of the flange.
Ideally the ring material should be about 30 Brinell hardness number softer than the flange material.
  • At this value, there is sufficient deformation of the ring to ensure tightness of the joint without damaging the flange.
